The Carroll boys soccer season is now in full swing, and energy is running high.
The team is currently sitting at a record of 10-1-1, with their only loss coming from Northridge, and their tie coming from Penn.
Senior Rylan Lochmueller said, “I think [so far] this season we have done really well. I think a lot of people didn’t see us doing as well this year since we lost some key seniors. So it’s always nice to surprise people.”
It’s true, the boys Chargers soccer team did lose some important pieces after last year, but they’ve overcome that to have a great record thus far.
Part of this success comes from the team’s mentality.
Lochmueller said, “…we always have a winning mentality. Every time we step on the field we expect to win.” This seemingly small aspect of sports can have a massive impact on a team’s performance. Often, it is why upsets happen across the sports world.
But this year’s guys soccer team couples their winning mentality with talent and chemistry, making the Chargers very formidable for opponents.
Lochmueller briefly described how the team is getting ready for the postseason. “I think it’s just [with] a certain level of intensity,” he said. “Whether it is a game or practice, just working hard and trying to win.”
That intensity is one of the best ways to prep for the playoffs, which is where the ultimate victories for any team come.
Lochmueller emphasized, “[The postseason] is the only thing that matters. Especially since we have deep runs the past two years. That is what we play for.”
Watch out for this Carroll squad as they move deeper into this year’s campaign. They’re certainly a powerhouse, and should give opposing teams fits as the season goes forward.
