Monica LaLonde took on the role of the new AP European History teacher.
After the previous AP European teacher, Jordan Fernandez left to become an administrator in East Allen County Schools, LaLonde happily took on the role.
Lalonde has been at NACS for many years, primarily teaching Geography and Honors World History.
“Geography is my favorite [to teach] it just has so much more and it is more enjoyable to teach than the more in-depth classes like world history and European history,” said Lalonde
Although Lalonde is still teaching Geography she replaced teaching Honors World History with AP European History.
The school board regulates AP and Honors classes at a higher level, putting more stress and pressure on Lalonde. Some of the stress has been lifted off of Lalondes shoulders as the past AP Euro teacher made the transition a little easier for Lalonde.
Fernandez was passionate about teaching this course in her time at Carroll.
“Trying to take over the position of someone who enjoyed this course so much is intimidating,” LaLonde said. “I can only hope that I can teach it as well as she did.”
In order to teach AP classes the school board has mandated training, Lalonde mentioned the training was not to terribly difficult but it it cut into personal time over the summer.
“I spent a majority of the summer away from my family studying for this role,” LaLonde said.
LaLonde emphasized the hard work she put in over the summer, away from her family, to prepare for this role. She believes that it’s crucial for students to have a comprehensive understanding of history in order to influence the future positively.
