A good horror movie needs to have some comedy mixed into it, a little gore, a specific main character, and a clear, good plot that isn’t rushed. October is here, so it is time to get in the Halloween spirit and watch some horror movies.
10) Jigsaw (2017) – The setting is a barn, and the characters’ goal is to try to escape and survive. The different tests and games the characters are put through to hopefully survive hooked me instantly because the movie also presents a lot of mind twists and challenges. Overall, the movie is very entertaining and can be found on Netflix.
9) Terrifier (2016) – It takes place on Halloween day when a clown basically “haunts down” or follows these two girls he sees in a restaurant to kill them. It’s filled with gore and comedy, it’s a scary watch you can find on Tubi.
8) Halloween (1978) – It is about a guy in a mask named Michael Myers who stalks and follows a girl who is a babysitter and tries to kill her. This movie turns into a series where he follows her for years trying to kill her. It’s a great watch found on Prime Video.
7) The Conjuring (2013) – A family moves into a new house hoping for a new start but is faced with demons and ghosts haunting them. They call experts to help them and to do tests, but one of the family members gets possessed which makes it hard for them to make them leave. It’s an amazing watch found on Netflix.
6) Scream (1996) – It starts off with a girl alone at home and the iconic line “What’s your favorite scary movie?” The killer in the ghost mask goes after the main star Sydney during the movie and her group of friends. They try to figure out who it is and soon discover that the killer is with them all along. This movie is filled with twists found on Max.
5) Leatherface (2017) – It’s a sequel to the “Chainsaw Massacre.” It starts with a couple driving and seeing a child in need of help. The woman goes to help her but he takes her to his family who kills her. The cops came and sent him to a mental institution, where later on he soon broke out and went after others. This movie is found on Peacock.
4) Child’s Play (1988) – It’s in the 80s when a new doll comes out called “Good Guys” and a little boy wanted one for his birthday. His mother surprised him with one after finding a guy who had one. Unfortunately for him, he got that doll that was possessed by a man who was a killer and on the run. This movie can be watched on Netflix.
3) The Black Phone (2021) – It is based in the 1970s when a child killer named “The Grabber” started to snatch up kids, specifically little boys. A boy gets grabbed by him and has to try to escape with the help of the other dead kids “calling” the black phone on the basement wall where he’s trapped. While this happens his sister has dreams giving her clues as to where her brother might be. This movie is found on Prime Video.
2) Ma (2019) – This movie starts with a girl and her mom moving houses back to her mom’s hometown. The girl meets new friends and they want to buy beer. They go to a gas station and take turns waiting outside trying to get people to buy them beer. They soon stumble across a woman who is willing to. Little do they know the woman went to school with their parents and they bullied her. They became her friend and used her house as the “party house”. They weren’t expecting what was to come at the end. This movie is found on Hulu.
1) IT (2017) – It’s set in the 80s when kids start to go missing and nobody knows why. The main character Billy’s brother goes missing while playing in the rain. He tries to find him with his group of friends and they soon figure out it was a sewer clown doing this the whole time and he taunts them. This can be watched on Netflix.
