Scares by the pixel spice up Halloween

It’s that time again everyone loves, it’s spooky month! With the spooky month comes new games, but these games are old and need some dusting off so here are the top 10 scary games that can still spook you.

First up, it is known for its “unique” style and life none other than Alien Isolation, which came out in 2014, set in the 1980s, and still considered the scariest game by many people. With the 3D graphics updated recently and the alien AI being remade, this game could give you nightmares. What makes this one so special is the fact the AI learns from what you do so be careful.

Not only that, but the game itself has a good story and interesting plot. The player meets characters who help you to get through the tough times to those who are trying to help the Alien kill everyone on the station.

The next 3D game is a little newer and has been popular for almost a year now and if 1980s aren’t your thing, how about the future? How about Atomic Heart? This game is a marvel without having to say it, with unique enemies and a good plot this one may not be as scary as Alien Isolation but it still can be cool and scary for certain people.

If 3d isn’t your style how about removing a plan and playing a 2d horror game called Mr. Hopp’s Playhouse, this infamous game is one of the 2d games that deserves to be on this list because  the creators took advantage of the 2D by adding little secrets and spots to get jumpscared by a giant rabbit. The game was also released, in a spooky coincedence, on October 2019.

If you don’t like seeing a big rabbit chase after you in the midst of the night then another good 2d horror game would be Baldi’s Basics, made in the year 2018. It is a game where it seems you’re going to school at first but then the teacher gives you an unsolvable math equation in which he gets mad and locks the door. Now the only way out is by getting all the notebooks and finding the right door.

Maybe next submerge yourself underwater and try not to drown as there are many dangers like monsters, ship failure, and crew sabotage how bout playing Barotrauma, made in 2023, this one will make every nightmare about deep water exploration real, with unique monsters and limited supplies, plus with your captain in charge of everything including your less-than-minimum wage.

How bout a bloody surprise, how bout being a Vampyr, this 3D game came out in 2018, It had plenty of popularity when it came out and gained more reputation when it was nominted for a G.O.T.Y. award.

The main character gets turned into a vampire and wakes up hungry for blood but accidentally bites his sister. He has vampire skills and creates weapons out of blood. But if you like being sneaky and holding back in the shadows like a vampire then you can jump out of the dark and bite people. Characters can  also battle the undead who catch the Black Plague and return from the undead with more power. Other than the sad story, it has an amazing graphic system and environment.

Speaking of the undead how bout playing Dying Light, this old classic came out on December 2, 2015, this game has a sequel made for it later due to it being heavily requested. Other than the fact it has a sequel going for it, it has a storyline, unlike any other zombie game, with unique characters and enemies.

Well, enough about the undead let’s allow them to rest in peace, next up are ones that have bad graphics but good jumpscares which make it all the better, right?

A game only available on mobile is none other than Granny, no not the old lady. This game brings the definition of working on a budget, with it having bad graphics though it is 2017, it worked to use scariness via bad graphics as what is more scary than a deformed old lady chasing you?

Other than that it took 3 years before being released on Steam, a platform for PC users to buy and play games. The reason why it took so long to get on the platform might be due to the fee of $100 to publish, though that will covered in a different article.

If ugly jumpscares aren’t your thing, how about playing a game that goes all the way back to 2007, none other than Bioshock. This game may not rely on cheap scares, but it still manages to creep you out with its eerie atmosphere, unsettling story, and the underwater city of Rapture, which feels more like a haunted house than a utopia.

The psychological tension and disturbing characters make it a unique entry on this list. Though it may be old, this one can still send some running.

Speaking of creepy atmospheres, how about another classic series? Resident Evil. Specifically, Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, which came out in 2017. You find yourself in a decaying plantation home, trying to survive the horrors of the twisted Baker family.

With limited resources and grotesque monsters lurking around every corner, the game is somewhat nightmare in itself, though don’t worry this one can’t bite.
