Gone are the days of scoring 60+ points a game, now the Boys basketball team is lucky to score 30. three games into the new regime under Chris Benedict, things are off to a rocky start in Charger Fieldhouse.
Game one was against the Knights of Norwell which saw the Chargers score 58 points while shooting 64% from the field. The defense was stellar in the matchup only giving up 30 all night long. While a 28-point victory is eye-popping for a Benedict team, who likes to play slow and pass the ball around numerous times before a shot, this was a sense of false hope for the Chargers.
Game 2 was a different story though, Carroll only managed to score 8 points in the first half vs Penn. 8 points in 16 minutes while sporting shooting percentage of 15.7. The second half was a bit better with the Chargers going a scoring explosion to end the game with 31. While the offense was non-existent the defense was decent as only 39 points were allowed in the game.
Game 3 was more of the same vs Benidict’s old team in Columbia City, a 44-35 loss. The first half of this game was even worse as 7 points were scored. The shooting percentage for the team on the night was 28.4%.
Carroll looks to bounce back this weekend with games vs Concordia and East Noble on the road.
