The Swimming and Diving team is known for being one of the best in the state for many years due to the amazingly talented students here Benjamin Sutton shares his point of view on the 2024-2025 season.
Benjamin Sutton said, “Coming off a very successful year for both our Boys and girls both our teams are hungry to improve.”
The Swim and dive season began on November 25 with the first swim meet being at home. The Students compete in 12 total events, 11 swimming and 1 dive.
“With how we finished at state last year I would say our best event is the 500 Freestyle,” Sutton said.
The men’s team beat Concordia 149 to 17, receiving a total of 47 medals. The women’s team won 144 to 53 with 43 medals.
The Swimming and Diving men’s team is currently 8th in the state, while the women are 3rd in the state.
Senior Ryan Kneller tied with senior Mason Crews for most points scored, with 12 points, but Kneller had higher average performance points with a 97.0 for the men’s team.
“Between both guys and girls, we had 3 Individual Top 8 Finishes in this event at the state meet,” said Sutton, “all 6 of our Sectional swimmers in this event are back again this year.”
Two very talented alumni Tristan and Mya DeWitt competed at the Olympic trials this past June. With the 2028 Olympics being held here in the United States Sutton says that many of his students strive to also participate in the pre-Olympic event and hopefully go on to compete in the worldwide event.
Sutton has only been coaching the swim and dive team for 2 years, but he is anticipating a good season and much success for the students.
The next meet is at Homestead High School against Homestead and Snider next week on December 12.
