The story of James Gunn’s Creature Commandos is one about a group of villainous monsters tied together by the bombs in their neck and the promise of freedom, a promise not so easily achieved.
The leader of the Creature Commandos is Rick Flag Senior, (Voiced by Frank Grillo) The Bride, (Voiced by Indira Varma) Nina Mazursky (Voiced by Zoe Chao) Dr. Phosphorus, (Voiced by Alan Tudyk) G.I Robot and Weasel (both voiced by Sean Gunn).
The story is full of twists and turns that happen during the plot of the team protecting the princess of the fictional country Polkolistan from the Amazonian sorceress Circe (Played by Anya Charlatora), a Wonder Woman arch-villain.
While many famous heroes do not appear such as Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman they are mentioned by some of the characters in the universe one of them being Amanda Waller (Voiced by Viola Davis).
The series has been off to a great start with a well earned 90% score on Rotten Tomatoes the story while having an overarching plot isn’t afraid to shift focus from the engaging plot to the more engaging backstory of the characters.
Characters help build the world of the new DCU with them having lived in locations that famous heroes reside such as Star city where the Green Arrow fights crime, or Gotham city the Batman’s den, Themyscira the mythical land Wonder Woman hails from.
The rest of the story is one that builds up the characters that lead to an ending that while being somewhat satisfying does leave you questioning more about why certain actions were taken by the characters when they make no sense due to previously established moments.
In the previous episodes the characters were able to easily defeat the enemy guards and then in the last episode they treated them like the biggest obstacle in their way almost like they weren’t able to easily defeat them earlier.
All in all the show had a lot of requirements to fulfill with starting a new universe and it did fulfill all the requirements that were there for building a world, the establishment of the fact that people are used to superheroes or at least the unusual things that their world has to offer.
With the series having wrapped up and it still leaving a few questions unanswered, questions that will hopefully get answered in season 2 that is planned to release sometime in 2026.
