Everybody likes him. He taught history for nearly two decades.
Brian Hill worked at Carroll Middle School for nine years and then he was asked to move to the high school in August to take another assistant principal job but specifically for freshmen.
“I liked working at the middle school but I told my boss that if something opened up at the high school then I would be interested in it, but still consider both,” Hill said.
Seeing Hill at the high school amazed every ninth grader who went to Carroll Middle.
“I was really surprised when I saw him around but I was also happy because I already knew him from middle school,” said freshman Kaitlin Molden.
There are a lot more students at the High school vs the Middle school so it is a big difference in a day to day life with being personal with staff and students.
“I miss the smallness and closeness of the middle school because I was there nine years and became close with the staff and knew them all,” said Hill.
Students who went to Carroll Middle remember how Hill interacted with students and staff.
“I always saw him saying hi to kids and I would talk to him at lunch a lot because he went to all the lunches,” said by freshman Kenzie Turney.
There are a lot of different adjustments when someone moves from a small place to a much bigger place with unfamiliar faces.
“There are a lot of staff that if I saw them at like the grocery store I probably wouldn’t recognize them since I never see all of them on a day-to-day basis like I used to at the middle school,” said Hill.
There is a also a major difference in how middle school students act versus how high school students act.
“I really like the mature conversations that I can have with high schoolers because I couldn’t do that much with middle school students,” said Hill.
Previously Hill taught History and English when he was a teacher, now that he works at the high school he gets an opportunity to revisit that.
“I like the curriculum here a lot since it is more advanced for older kids,” said Hill.
One of the jobs being assistant principles is having to sit inside classes and evaluate the teachers.
“My favorite part of my job is getting classroom time to evaluate teachers and just see what they are learning,” said Hill.
