Hello, dear reader.
I’m sure if you’ve read any of my other output this is a very unusual entry into my writing history, but there’s a reason for the sudden shift. As it stands, I’m both tired of talking about myself and my problems, and I’m also out of stories to share really.
Believe it or not, things have been getting better over here in stupid town, so I’ve not exactly got any updates, so I figured I’d write this instead. So, let’s not beat around the bush anymore, it’s time to give you what you came here for.
First off, you need to come into something like this with a plan. You can’t just open a document and expect ideas to suddenly start flowing in. You have to have a topic, something you want to write about, once you get that off the ground the rest should begin to flow naturally.
Speaking of flow, the second tip I have is to not let anything distract you and ruin your flow. What I usually do when writing is sit down in almost total silence and I just hammer something out to the tune of my own thoughts. I know some people are adamant that they need music to work, but trust me, you really don’t want music clouding your thoughts when writing, especially if it’s something personal. Another thing I do is if I make a mistake in my writing, I leave fixing it for later, because if you ruin your flow, it might be hard to get it back.
Another tip is just to be honest about things. Don’t sugar coat or hide the truth, speak your mind as loud as you like. If you’re afraid of judgement, you really shouldn’t be, there’s going to come a point in your life where you’re going to have to face judgement. I’ve been judged all my life, usually for some pretty good reasons, and yet here I remain standing, and if I can so can you.
So, there you have it, three easy to digest tips to help you write columns like a real newspaper aficionado if you really even care. At this point, I feel like I’m just hollering into the void but hey, it’s all right, hollering’s what I do best anyways.
But hey, if newspaper’s not your thing, you could probably use these tips in real writing as well, whatever floats your boat as they say.
