In 1969 Hanna-Barbera, run by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera released a series that would become synonymous with the company. Scooby Doo where are you?
Scooby doo where are you?, was created by Joe Ruby and Ken spears as their big project they were sure would succeed. And they were right. The 4 mystery solving teens and the talking dog were an instant hit.
Shaggy Rogers, Daphne Blake, Velma Dinkley, and Fred Jones are the humans who solve mysterious cases with their great Dane dog Scooby-doo. The series has spawned 14 series and 45 movies. It hasn’t shown any sign of stopping, the Scooby doo franchise was recently renewed for another animated series called Go-go mystery machine and a live action series being developed by Netflix.
What we do know is that the story is set to take place during the kids’ last summer at camp Ruby-Spears. Here the gang will meet for the first time so expect the actors who portray the characters to be in their late teens to early twenties.
Due to the setting we can assume that it will be something similar to Friday the 13th with a classic Scooby-doo twist to it. There are only two other plot points we know of due to how early in development this series is.
One: Shaggy Rogers and Daphne Blake are childhood friends
Two: The great Dane pup that is discovered at camp who seems to have ties to a supernatural murder.
So with the first plot point I think that the reason that this exists is so that they can establish a love triangle between Fred, Shaggy, and Daphne. And have that as a sublot because you can’t spell, Netflix show without, unnecessary love triangle.
Now the second known plot point is something that I find interesting. The given plot description calls a point to a “Supernatural murder.” being witnessed by Scooby.
So this means that supernatural elements are going to be present in the story, while this is nothing new for the series it has been a thing the series has done since the scrappy era.
In this series is Scooby going to talk? Well the obvious answer is that Scooby is THE talking dog so of course he is. That’s not exactly a guarantee, Netflix has a bad habit of making characters too “Realistic” in their stories about supernatural things.
So here is what I think the main plot is going to be: Long time friends Shaggy and Daphne go to the same summer camp they’ve gone to their entire lives, this time for the last time as they’re getting too old for it. While here they meet Fred, a handsome boy who acts slightly mysterious, and a girl a year or two younger Velma who’s a genius scientist whose parents sent her here to “Experience the world”.
While here they encounter the great Dane Scooby and after finding out he has ties to a murder they begin looking for suspects and their first suspect is an oddly mysterious camp counselor- Who will probably be played by Mathew Lillard- In the end he won’t be the suspect but a red herring to throw the audience off the real killer who is probably one of the kids parents.
