Weekly Basketball Recap: Boys Capture SAC Title

Win Twice and Improve to 17-3

Friday: The Chargers captured the SAC Championship Friday night with a 55-45 win over Homestead. The game left both teams sitting with conference records of 8-1 but the Chargers captured the title on the head to head tiebreaker. After coming out of the gates hot with a 10-0 run to start the game Homestead recovered but fell to another Carroll run to finish off the quarter down 19-8 to the  Chargers. As the first half wore on the teams continued to battle back and forth but it was still the Chargers in front at the half, despite a late run by the Spartans that brought the game to within two. The second half was much of the same as halfway through the fourth quarter the game sat at 42-38 before the Chargers regained the momentum off a Riley Perlich basket and they would not look back as they kept their composure and hit their free throws down the stretch the lead out and secure the victory in a game in which they never trailed. Riley Perlich scored 13 points for the Chargers alongside David Ejah who also added 13 to go with 11 rebounds for a double double on the night. Sam Buck of Homestead led all scorers with 20 points.

Saturday: The boys made their final road trip of the regular season Saturday evening and came home happy after defeating North Central by a score of 62-54.  After the first quarter the Chargers were down by three and and battled hard in the second frame but could only cut the deficit by one and trailed 35-33 at the half. In the third quarter the Chargers picked up their play and took the lead heading into the fourth quarter where they would grow their lead with a 10-4 quarter. Riley Perlich yet again led the Chargers is scoring with 17 points, this time Dan McKeeman joined him at the top of the score sheet with 17 points of his own. David Ejah posted a double double for the second night in a row, adding 12 points and 10 boards, earning his third double double of the season. The Chargers will return home on Friday night to finish out the season with a game against Warsaw.

Sectional Draw: Sectional draws were revealed on Sunday and the Chargers will open up Sectional play against SAC opponent Northrop on Wednesday, February 28. Check back here later this week for a Sectional Preview.

IBCA Poll: The boys moved into 16th place in the poll this week after being in a tie for 17th last week with Lawrence Central.
