Standards for today’s society

As everyone knows, there are “standards” for guys and girls. For example, guys have to do masculine things and it’s weird for them to do anything like theater. For girls, they aren’t “strong enough” to play football or anything that is “meant for guys”.

Girls are seen as more emotional and sensitive and guys are supposed to be seen as tough and not show as much emotion. This shouldn’t be the case because people shouldn’t be looked down upon just because they don’t fit the “standards.”

There are girls that are tomboys and like to wear guy clothes and are thought of weird for doing that. People should be allowed to do what they want without being judged by others and brought down. Then there are guys who are seen as less than for being “too sensitive.” Why should guys be tough all the time? They are allowed to show emotions just like us girls.

It’s unhealthy for guys to keep their emotions bottled up like society tells them to. I do admit, I am an emotional girl, but I keep my feelings bottled up and everyone thinks that they should because they don’t want to bother people. Society has too high of expectations for people and it makes things harder for people to live their lives.

There are people who can’t live their lives genuinely happy because they think they have to act a certain way or look a certain way so they spend most of their time trying to keep up with these expectations.

I believe that this is why so many people get depressed because when they can’t meet everyone’s expectations, they get sad and start to think poorly of themselves. So we need to rethink our “standards” because no one is perfect so people need to stop thinking otherwise.

Living in a society where girls have to act a certain way and guys do to hasn’t been the best because of how it gives people the wrong impression of how society should really be. Especially in high school. Students have a lot of pressure on them and can’t express themselves with how they want to without getting judged or looked down on.

There are guys who like doing theater, but can be judged and seen as less manly. Which shouldn’t be the case because just because a guy may like theater, doesn’t mean he is any less of a man.

Then, there are girls who want to play football but are looked at weird because with society, girls are “a lot weaker” than guys and can’t do the same thing that guys do. But it shouldn’t be looked at weird. Girls should be able to do the same sports that guys do.

People can’t be comfortable in their own skin if society keeps these high expectations. Everyone needs to realize that just because someone may be different than you, doesn’t make them any less of a person. They just have a different personality and a different way of doing things. But they shouldn’t be looked down upon just because of that.
