Silly Bandz fad bounces back

For the second time in their lives Silly Band are sweeping over Carroll High School students. Over the past few months, colorful rubber bands have been seen on more and more student’s wrists, allowing the student body to experience a blast from their past.

Juniors Stella Scruggs and Claudia Hitzemen are fueling the trend. They each have become known as Silly Band dealers, they are passing out the bands to anyone who expresses interest.

Stella alone has around 2,400 Silly Bandz, she bought them on April 28.

“I found them online and was like woah why did I stop wearing these’” said Stella.

Claudia has around 400 bands.

“I got them from my second grade self,” said Claudia.

This colorful craze isn’t for everyone, senior Nate Sutton, doesn’t support the trend.

“I wore them in elementary school, and looking back on it, they are kinda dumb, I could just wear a rubber band instead,” said Nate.

He prefers to leave them in the past as a cringey childhood fad.

“They are literally silly!’ said Nate.

As cheesy as it sounds the feeling the bands gives Claudia a way to express herself.

“I can change the bands up everyday to portray how I feel or even just match them up to my outfit,” Claudia said.

Stella agreed and said that when she put them on her wrist while at camp her friends immediately began wearing them again, and now she is bringing the trend to CHS.

Not everyone is on board with the movement but that doesn’t stop Stella or her fellow supporters from wearing the bands.

“There was some criticism at first and I told myself ‘block out the haters Stella’ and now my haters are wearing Silly Bandz,” Stella said.
