Grand Champions, Center Grove High School, celebrating up on stage in the large auditorium after sweeping both the unisex and mixed division after the Carroll Classic concluded.

After snowmageddon hit the Fort Wayne area, directors Jill Jeran and Eric Smead were met with the impossible task of hosting both the Carroll Classic and the ISSMA solo and ensemble vocal contest. This was due to the solo and ensemble competition that is held here at Carroll High school after it had been canceled and rescheduled to the following weekend. Having already the Carroll Classic show choir event for the weekend, the choir directors decided to take on the challenge of hosting two competitions at once and made history for the show choirs by pulling off this amazing feat.

Along with the now rescheduled ISSMA competition, Carroll Classic was also in full swing. The highly popular and anticipated show choir competition was a two-day event hosted by the show choir students, directors, parent volunteers, and choir band members. Spending long hours into the night hosting 5 middle school groups on Friday and 18 groups on Saturday, this Carroll Classic was one for the books.

Carroll was the place to be and the talk of the town after the amazing lineup of vendors was listed including Evolve nutrition, Salsa Grille, Rusty’s Ice Cream, and many more big names.

Some of the groups however were taken earlier than expected when they departed from Carroll and made their way over to Homestead High School to compete in The Homestead Classic Showcase.

Overall, the day one competition had Woodside/Summit Middle School at the top of the judge’s list with the best choreography and best female soloist right above the Maple Creek ‘MC Singers’ who took best vocals.

Day two was swept by Center Grove High School in both the championship mixed division and the women’s division. Both Center Grove ‘Sound System’ and ‘Debtones’ took best vocals and best choreography for both groups while New Castle ‘Red Hot Blues’ dominated the small mixed division class.

Even with all of the setbacks, only high praises were sung for the helpful volunteers with comments from other attendees stating that everyone was very professional and friendly.

Everything went very well, we had many positive comments from those who attended ISSMA and the Carroll Classic,” stated choir director Jill Jeran. “ With the help of our students and parent volunteers, we were able to make both events happen. It was a great day for Carroll.”

The choirs next week are taking their trip over to Center Grove high school to compete in the Center Grove Best of the Midwest competition where North Central “Counterpoints” are the ones to beat according to Showchoir.com. After seeing some of the amazing performances that were offered from the past weekend, Carroll Choirs is fired up and ready to take on the next competition and go for gold.
