Center Grove has always been the group to beat according to Carroll Show Choirs, but now the groups were making their way to the high school rather than competing against each other.

The competition was tough with big-name schools such as North Central, Lafayette Jefferson, and Fishers Highschool.

The choirs were nervous going into the competition but according to Choir director Eric Smead, “It was the best show he’s seen the choirs put out so far.”

Both groups worked hard and created a great amount of buzz surrounding their shows.

“The shows this year have been my favorite out of all the years I have been involved in show choir considering the commitment and energy the group brings,” senior Minstrel Magic member Vivian Diller stated. “It’s interesting not knowing how we will place at the competitions considering the level of competitors.”

Fishers High School swept the women’s competition with first-place including best vocals, choreography, overall effect, and female soloist. Carroll “Select Sound” beat out three other competitors to take the third-place slot right behind the North Central High School “Descants”.

The North Central “Counterpoints” also swept up grand champions taking best vocals, choreography, and costumes. Carroll “Minstrel Magic” came in fourth place beating out Whiteland and Decatur.

Both groups were excited after an amazing performance at Center Grove and looked forward to seeing how the show choir community would react to the changes made before their next competition at The Franklin Central Hoosier Show Choir Classic in Indianapolis. The competition,

however, didn’t get any lighter.

Choirs like Center Grove, Oak Mountain, Brownsburg, and Carmel High School took to the stage with no guarantee of who will take the top spot. Predictions were already being made through Showchoir.com prior to the competition with the Carmel Ambassadors and Center Grove Sound System fighting for that first place spot.

“Everyone is a competitor this weekend,” stated Eric Smead. “Everyone is sleeping on what you can do.”

After it was all said and done, Carroll Minstrel Magic didn’t place in the finals and Select Sound placed in finals and earned a well-deserved fourth-place standing.

“Overall both groups have been placing very well at competitions and this weekend at Avon we are up against some very serious competitors,” said senior Select Sound member Grace Holle. “We are hoping to pull through and place well.”

As predictions stated, Carmel and Center Grove fought tooth and nail, but eventually, the Carmel “Ambassadors” came out on top and swept the competition in both the unisex and mixed groups while grabbing the best choreography as well in both divisions.

A special shout out to the soloists that competed at the last two competitions and will compete at Avon. Senior Cameron Gregory has been the talk of the town since Center Grove after he swept the solo division earning yet another grand champion title.

“Having the opportunity to be able to perform solo comp at Center Grove was just insane,” said Gregory. “It was very emotional with it being my last solo comp ever.”

Carroll steps out to Avon this weekend with hopes of taking a top place in this competition with all of the further changes that are being made this week.
