Duffus leads Carroll Hockey with Humility, Hard Work

Carroll Hockey Captain Alex Duffus is in his first year as the captain of the Chargers but he’s already learned how to set an example for the team and play hockey at a high level from his dad, ex-pro hockey player, Paris Duffus.

“(Paris) taught me how to play the game and how to be humble and to be a leader on the team” said Alex.

Now in his second year with the Carroll team, Alex was given the team’s captaincy. As one of the top scorers on the team and the captain, Alex uses his leadership position to help him pass on some of the knowledge he’s learned from his dad, and through his own experiences, playing with Triple-A teams like the Tri-State Spartans, AWP U18, and now the Fort Wayne Force U18, to help develop the underclassmen that the Chargers rely on to help offensively as the Chargers have just two seniors, in total, and only one junior with more than a season of experience at the High School level.

“It just means being able to have an opportunity to teach the guys what I know as captain and to teach them how to become better hockey players and what I’ve learned over the years,” Alex said.

Alex also tries to set example on and off the ice by both working hard at practice and being humble day in and day out at games and practices.

“I try my best to work hard and work ethic is a huge thing,” said Alex.

Through 12 games Alex is tied for the third most goals on the Chargers, with six, and has added three assists for a total of nine points.

The Chargers currently sit in third place in the Fort Wayne High School Hockey Association standings with a league record of 5-3-1. Overall the Chargers are 5-7-1 and are ranked 22nd out of 31 teams in the MYHockey Indiana High School Rankings.

The Chargers return to action Wednesday, November 22, against the Leo Lions at the Parkview SportOne Icehouse. The game is set to begin at 6:40 p.m.
