When Lindsey Ravis, the beloved French teacher left her beloved students and classroom, her room felt piercing and frosty. But, Dr. Taylor Buzzard swooped in just in the nick of time.
Within the first few weeks of school, Buzzard has filled Room 153 with love and compassion and has welcomed his love to all students and staff.
However, this isn’t new for Dr. Buzzard, for he has years full of experience in this field.
“This is my ninth year teaching French. Before coming to Carroll, I taught at South Side High School for nine years and I have been teaching French and Education courses at Purdue University Fort Wayne for two years now,” said Dr. Buzzard in a recent interview
This fact was comforting for all French students because of his familiarity with the course.
But he left out a surprising detail: he primarily speaks in French. Which has thrown French I and French II students for a loop.
“Buzzard speaks French more during class time, I would say at least double as much as Ravis did,” said French II Sophomore Reagan Ganshorn.
Another student voices her opinion on this new dynamic found in her French classroom.
“So, Buzzard definitely teaches in French more often than Madame does and at first, it was a bit of a culture shock, but now I’m getting used to it,” said French II sophomore Samantha Ealing. “Buzzard puts more emphasis on trying and getting things wrong, which is okay in his opinion.”
Another change that has worried students is how the beloved French Club will now operate without Madame Ravis. But, Buzzard quickly resolves this, because of his thrilling new ideas for the club.
“As for the French Club, I am excited to work with our officers to continue the French Club and to grow it even bigger. We hope to plan some fun activities that include games, culturally related crafts and events, and cooking,” said Buzzard.
Though Buzzard was worried about this change a few familiar faces quickly resolved any built-up anxiety.
“It is also interesting that I also have two former students of mine from South Side that are teachers here as well, Profe Galicia (Spanish) and Ms. Sneed (ASL),” says Buzzard, “I am excited to be here and excited about the energy that all my new students have. I am positive that this year will be full of great memories and lots of French.”
Not only was Buzzard ecstatic to reunite with his past students, but also his former students were too. Profe Galicia shared her newfound excitement in a recent interview.
“When Dr. Buzzard reached out to me about the position at Carroll, I was excited but unsure if he’d make the move for personal reasons … I learned that he had accepted the position, and I was over the moon. I have no doubt that he’ll bring the same energy and creativity to the world language team at Carroll that made him such an impactful teacher for me,” said Galicia.
