Underrated means a game with very little popularity or attention, but it deserves much more recognition than the usual batch of bad apples that everyone prefers.
Though, some games can go quickly from being overrated to underrated, and the same thing for underrated games, though some never become popular due to certain conditions or because other companies flood the market with bad, unplayable games.
But here are the reasons why these specific games deserve more than being left behind in the dust to rust away.
One game to start with would be Satisfactory by Coffee Stain Studios, the reason why you should play is because of the calming and astounding music and environment that the game surrounds the player. Also, it has a very unique ecosystem with many hazards and problems for the player to encounter in each place.
If rainbows and sunshine or peaceful music isn’t your pack of muffins why not play Factorio by Wube Software, this game has amazing attention to detail with the machines you automate with a high-detail texture. As well, it has an ecosystem of enemies that consume the pollution you create. Finally, this game is heavily moddable meaning you can change every aspect.
Though if getting eaten by monsters or old graphics isn’t your thing, why not go into the past and automate delivery routes in Anno 1800 by Ubisoft, the game may be from 2019 but its gameplay makes up for it in the end by allowing you to go back to the early 1800s to when the United States was just beginning. It also allows the player to control every little aspect of automation and building as well as having you battle pirates to protect your fleets and trade routes.
These so far are the ones that have been around awhile and were popular at first but died off but games shouldn’t just get forgotten and most have astonishing quality to offer.
If going back in time isn’t what you are looking for, why not go into the future and play the Dyson Sphere Program by Gamera Games, it is a game starting you in the future where mech suits exist and you start on a planet where many assume is Earth. In addition to this, the end goal is to work your way through the research tree and machines to get the materials to build a Dyson Sphere around the sun. To make things better, it comes with a tutorial, unlike most on this list.
But if you don’t want to go into space then let’s go deeper into the ground and get dirty by playing Tunnet by Puzzled Squid, it is known for starting you underground unlike these other games, you wake up after 100 years of being asleep and are tasked to connect the large network known as the tunnet. This game also helps teach you the basics of networking.
It has minor automation aspects that appear later in the game in the form of firewalls, antivirus, and many other computer-related items. As well you meet many NPCs along the way ranging from an angry farmer to a simple store clerk.
Overall, these games should get more attention as they started strong and didn’t get a good shot to get back into the industry and some of these get updates every month so you should go check them out.
