Mario Party is a game that many adults and kids have grown up with on various Nintendo consoles. From the N64 to the Nintendo Switch, Mario party games have populated the market. Starting with countable polygons and making it to smooth animation, Mario games have grown up with their audience.
My two favorite Mario Party games happen to be Mario Party 2 for the N64 and Super Mario Party for the Nintendo Switch.
In order to get Mario Party 2 on the Switch, it must be purchased the Nintendo Switch Online which costs $49.99
On the other hand, Super Mario Party costs $59.99.
Already, Mario Party 2 seems like the best choice due to its lower price.
Mario Party 2 also has more game boards than Super Mario Party. Boasting six to Mario Party 2’s four.
One of the downfalls of Mario Party 2 happens to be its lack of characters.
There are six playable characters in the game, Mario, Luigi, Peach, Wario, Donkey Kong, and Yoshi.
This is where Super Mario Party shines with its 20 characters. These characters are Mario, Luigi, Yoshi, Peach, Daisy, Rosalina, Wario, Waluigi, Donkey Kong, Koopa Troopa, Hammer Bro, Dry Bones, Shy Guy, Boo, Bowser, Bowser Jr., Diddy Kong, Pom Pom, Goomba, and Monty Mole. Some of them are unlocked after playing a bit of the game.
Both games play very similarly, focusing solely on the board game mode (because Super Mario Party has tons of different modes). The game boards are smaller for Super Mario Party and take longer to finish. In both games it is possible to change the amount of turns the game will take.
The minigames in each game are similar but have their differences. The N64 version has very simple controls due to the simplicity of the N64 controllers. The switch version takes advantage of the ability to track the movement of the Joycon, which lends itself to more diverse gameplay.
The final big difference is in quality. As charming as it is, the N64 graphics aren’t very good. The polygons are practically in the single digits. The Switch version has the great graphics that people have come to expect from the modern Nintendo games.
Overall get the new version. the games are more interactive and there’s more of them.
Also, there are so many game modes like the boating team mode and the rhythm game mode. Sure it’s a little more expensive but it’s totally worth it for the experience.
