Nicolas Cornett

Nicolas Cornett, Staff Reporter

Nicolas Riley Cornett is a Sophomore at Carroll, involved in several niche clubs, and is now the editor of the student newspaper. He enjoys learning Japanese and about Japanese culture through high school and his own personal studies. He is self-described as an avid pinnacle of eccentricity, and loves playing different video games such as the Persona and Shin Megami Tensei games, Katamari Damacy, and Fallout. He lives at home with his Mom and Dad, along with three cats. He enjoys going down rabbit holes to investigate things he is interested in, such as Gnosticism, Jungian Psychology, and revolutionary history. One figure he has learned about recently that inspires him is Che Guevara, a Cuban revolutionary who got an education and applied himself in a war to fix his broken country. Another revolutionary who has caught his attention is John Brown, a controversial figure from the American Civil War who is debated to either be an important fighter for emancipation or America’s first domestic terrorist. Nic also prides himself on his varied music taste, including J-Rock, Acid Jazz, and Swing. Currently, he listens to a lot of J-Pop and loves finding the meanings hidden under the surface of the music he listens to. He helps to run the Indie Appreciation Club, which debates, votes, and discusses to see what Indie albums and songs deserve to be at the top. Besides his passion for music, he also wants to be a mangaka or manga writer. He loves putting together stories in various media, including manga, but also games, music, and books. He wants to become better at everything he does, inspired by his favorite quote, “A person grows once they can defeat their weaker self” (Hirohiko Araki). He hopes to be able to conquer his own weakness and strives every day towards that goal.
